Mental Health in East Austin: The Crisis at Stake
This report was made for an assignment in my Graphic Design III course. We were instructed to create a book that responded to East Austin. The neighborhood is undergoing political, cultural, and structural change, all of which are attributed to gentrification. It is a primarily lower income, minority-centered community. I chose to focus my book on the issues surrounding mental health care, due to its stigmatization. My report is a comprehensive, yet easy to understand, telling of the crisis that the residents of the neighborhood and city of Austin face. I imagine it could be printed in mass quantities and distributed among local clinics and community centers as an informative public health policy piece. This is one of my first experiments with social design and I have come to appreciate its effectiveness.
